The officials have accepted many design inputs from teachers and well wishers. The design is expected to integrate energy conservation measures in the new construction. Plans for installing a natural gas generator is under consideration, which can power areas that unexpectedly lose electricity.
The new school design features a gym, drop-zone, kitchen, life skills / special education area, library, main entrance, dining area with stage, counselor’s office and break rooms along with a computer lab and music room. Measures to avoid traffic problem around the school facility will also be implemented.
Kindergarten classrooms in the school building will feature separate restroom facilities. In the present facility there is only one rest room for two class rooms. A proposal to create storage rooms with easy-open, double doors will also be considered.
A system of cooling the outside air will be installed and the cooled air will be exhausted back out. Fluorescent lighting will be used through out the facility as a measure to conserve energy.
The officials have decided to construct a new single campus instead of renovating both the facilities. The cost of new school is estimated to be $19 million to $20 million.
The construction is expected to be completed by late 2009 and is slated for completion by December 2010.
