The project involves complete transformation of a 1977-built social housing area of the Himmerland housing association into a new residential neighbourhood. The community will be built with town house-like new homes with varied wooden facades and improved outdoor facilities.
The new neighbourhood will feature homes with different heights, views and relations between parts. The plan includes provisions for the upwards extension of some of the top floor homes, and joining of other apartments to create entirely new layouts. The company also plans to change the number of units.
The vertical expansion will convert the former small and single-level apartment types units into townhouse-like typology. The company will convert most of the ground-level homes into accessible units. The proposal also includes opening up the end-gables of the buildings by means of new windows.
The rooftop homes will be contemporary bright and spacious maisonette homes featuring terraces, open plans and large room-height glazing panels. These homes will be pre-fabricated units, which will be just hoisted and installed on the building’s roof.
The new neighbourhood will have a new community space, which will be placed centrally in the area and will comply with the strict future low-energy demands for 2020.
Møller also plans replacing concrete parapets with transparent parapets, adding Juliette-type balconies, bay windows and protruding frames. The units will have high sustainability quotient, achieved through new highly insulated facades that will be composed of wood pre-fab panels, with an exterior wood cladding.
The scheme is scheduled for completion by the end of 2014.
