The $85 million construction project encompasses both the emergency department, and the new Women’s and Children’s Hospital. The project is scheduled to be dedicated on October 11, following which the department will be operational from October 12, 2009.
The emergency room has been set up at the entrance of the hospital and includes a dedicated pediatric emergency department. The adult ER has been designed to include five triage rooms for evaluation of patients.
A separate area has been provided for cardiac patients. The department also includes a five-bay trauma area positioned just off the ambulance bay, with the facility to treat family members side by side.
X-ray facilities have also been added within the ER, which also features a six-bed observation area. The department is capable of handling 55,000 visits per year and can be expanded according to need.
