Uniprix Stadium, which is now home to Tennis Canada’s national training center, underwent renovation in 1996 for $25 million.
The stadium has started showing its age and is in urgent need of repair to ensure the durability and the growth of the Canadian Open in Montreal which is one of the nine major professional tournaments in the ATP and the WTA.
Tennis Canada will fund $1.6 million for the repairs and the rest of the funds will come form three levels of government, including $1.6 million from the city and another $8.6 million shared by the province and the federal government.
If the renovation is undertaken, the officials have plans to add four courts with clay surfaces, elevated boxes, remodeled locker rooms, a modern press gallery and an improved entrance area in the secondary stadium.
Tennis Canada is the national governing body of tennis within Canada. It works together with the provincial associations to organize tournaments and rules.
