The facility is presently carrying out work on its new Western Concourse Terminal. It will replicate the design of the airport’s Southern Concourse Terminal and will be linked to the latter via a rising atrium made of glass.

The new terminal will accommodate Virgin Australia airlines, regional carriers as well as a new Virgin Australia Lounge bearing resemblance to its Melbourne and Brisbane wings. The lounge will feature five extra aerobridges and 12 extra check-in counters. The passenger screening zone in the new lounge will be twice the size of the existing lounge.

Another feature of the project include construction of a car park area encompassing four floors. The area will facilitate access to the new terminal during all weather conditions. The airport will also be equipped with a fully enclosed taxi rank comprising indoor waiting space and TV screens following the makeover.

The facelift will allow the facility handle both domestic and international flight services. Construction of the car park and taxi rank are scheduled for March 2012 completion whereas the entire project is expected to be ready by mid-2013.
