The county plans to use the funding for taxiway marking and runway rehabilitation, to maintain airport infrastructure and improve safety.
The projects scheduled for completion include removing all rubber and rubber markings from the runway and rejuvenating the 3.6 million square feet of asphalt runway and blast pad surfaces, as well as repainting all of the runway markings. The airport also plans to update and refresh the painted markings on the taxiways to enhance operation safety.
Supervisor Mike Nelson at District Three commented, “As we continue to make the transition to a fully operating commercial airport, these rehabilitation projects are critical to protecting and maintaining the infrastructure, and as we continue to face a challenging economy, this funding will also be welcome to create jobs in the face of staggering unemployment figures.”
Castle Airport is prepared to begin the bid process for the project in the coming weeks and will be in a position to award the bid prior to the June 16, 2009 deadline for the funding to be allocated.
