The new hall at South Arizona Avenue and Chicago Street stretches over an area of 137,700 square feet consolidating various service departments throughout the region. It includes administrative offices, a public television studio, Council Chambers, an art gallery as well as public lobbies. The building also accommodates a parking lot with a capacity of 330.
The design of the hall integrates the history of downtown Chandler and the region with the advanced technology of the contemporary era. The new municipal complex in the building offers easy access to significant city services. The campus of the hall facilitates the pedestrians providing parking facilities in close proximity to commonly accessed departments like the City Clerk, Neighbourhood Resources, Community Services and Utilities.
The structures houses a 4,000 square feet Vision Gallery in the ground floor. It is an art gallery which also serves as a community room and features artist Ned Kahn’s original artistic creation called “Turbulent Shade.” The piece is a kinetic façade that moves with the wind, while shading the structure from the blazing sun of the desert.
The new Council Chambers provides an area for people to gather. Further, there is a central breezeway in the building which is an extension of the central lobby and acts as the main connector of the plaza. The hall is designed in such a way so as to provide pedestrian connections to Dr. A.J. Chandler Park to the northern side, the civic campus to the east along with a future mixed-use development to the western portion.
The project also includes upgrades to the surrounding site and has been completed in 2010 end.
