A key part of the renovation that is scheduled for completion in April 2014 is the replacement of obsolete temperature management systems which is vital for safeguarding and protecting the museum’s assortment.
Two new wings, totaling 8,000 square feet, will flank the museum’s entrance, adding to its current area of 210,000 square feet. Other enhancements include Wi-Fi access in each gallery, improved disability access, and an enlarged café which will be open beyond museum hours.
During renovation, the museum’s glass studio and Moses Myers House will stay open. The Norfolk History Museum will be transformed into a replacement gallery dedicated to Yankee art.
The museum’s assortments of over 30,000 items of art are safeguarded throughout the development method, with several being displayed at different galleries in Virginia.
