Philip Michael Wolfson has designed some exclusive pieces in HI-MACS which would be on display at the event. These include his famous Eruption Table, 3 of the Twisted side tables, as well as Split chairs among others.
Eruption low table, made with HI-MACS, is devised as an alternative to a purely ‘functional surface.’ Eruption examines the role of light and shadow on the surfaces, as well as the dynamics of line. Insinuating movement by both the contrasts of volume and the suggestion of a physical perception of lightness, the piece explores the boundary of solid and void. W 90cm x L 140cm x H 40cm or L 35.4” W 55.1” x H 15.75”.
The Split family uses a compound twist to manipulate a simple remnant of the material as a starting point. It starts with the minimalist stool as the basic family element. Split chair LOW incorporates a secondary seat and back as a ‘melted’ amorphic form, made with HI-MACS creates an unexpectedly familiar image of a strawberry’s & cream composition. It is available in dimensions of W60cm x H79cm x D65cm or W23.6” x H31”x D25.6”.
The Split chair HIGH references the stiff upright Gothic refectory chair as the antithesis of the fluid base. It is available in dimensions of W 60 cm X D 60 cm X H 44 cm or W 23.6 ” x D 23.6 ” x H 17.3 ”.
Clerkenwell Design Week will showcase a series of installations and exhibits by local architects and designers within the central London district. With the support from James Latham, HI-MACS exclusive distributor for UK and Ireland, HI-MACS will be on show in the Covered Pavillion, an area dedicated to surfaces.
