For Fantastic 2012, being held in Lille until 13 January, his UFO is poised in the city’s Flandre station after Lovegrove challenged himself to create an modernistic yet archteypical means of transport for the future.
‘This pure and pristine object destroys the boundaries between art and design, technology and science, spirituality and physics, nature and religion,’ says Lovegrove’s office, while the UFO has been attracting plenty of attention from the railway station users.
Meanwhile, for the Biennale Interieur, held in Kortrijk, Belgium for a week in October, Lovegrove was invited, along with seven other renowned designers, to conceive a project room in which to present a concept car. For this particular feature of the Biennale, called Future Primitives, Lovegrove projected a video created by Biothing on to a vehicle form presented as a moving shape. To realise such an advanced vehicle, the designer collaborated with an Italian engineer laboratory that consults with NASA.
