The new fire station will be located at N.C. Highway 194 in Boone and will encompass an area of 11,500-square-feet, which will be spread over two levels. The new facility will serve as the new headquarters of the department.
The roof of the building will feature light gauge metal stud roof. It will have at-grade entrances on both the levels, poured-in-place concrete walls, a pre-cast floor system, and wall framing for the second level. It will also incorporate many state-of-the-art features of fire station, such as convenience filling capabilities for fire trucks inside the building from an underground water storage tank. The building will also have an open loop geothermal HVAC system.
The project is designed to deliver a modern, attractive and technologically up-to-date facility, which will have a purposeful life of about 40-years.
Construction on the scheme is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2013, and is being undertaken by US-based design-build contractor Bobbitt Design Build.
