Designed by architectural practice Aedas and constructed under a design and build contract with Stoke-on-Trent City Council, the new teaching and classroom block will feature curriculum-based hubs for teaching and training. The new blocks will create teaching and breakout spaces along with a large indoor area for use in inclement weather.
The BIM technology has been used to design the innovative new school building. The BIM technology allows to digitally model the different elements of a building in real time and can predict how the building will perform. Providing integration of building services and the elimination of any issues between trades, the BIM technology also offers greater safety on site through improved planning and eliminates re-work which saves time and reduces costs. This approach is also aligned with the Government’s Construction Strategy and the industry mandate that will require fully collaborative BIM level 2, as a minimum, by 2016.
Transforming schools across the city and improving educational facilities, the new sustainable building at Holden Lane High School Specialist Sports College is scheduled to complete in January 2014.
