To cope up with the challenging economy, the cost of the museum to be located in Judiciary Square, adjacent to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial has been cut down. The museum will be scaled down from being a 100,000 square feet four level building to a three level facility covering 55,000 square feet.
The cost cutting will lead to scrapping the plans of the administrative space intended for staff; and reduction of the cafe and atrium space. However, the revised plan retains two thirds of the exhibit space, along with a theater, museum shop, dedicated areas for education and research, the glass entrance pavilions, and plaza of the museum.
Construction on the new plan is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2010, and expected to reach completion by mid 2013.
