Replacing Woodland’s 1917-built facility, the 163,000 square feet courthouse will consolidate Yolo County’s current court operations from six locations to one central location. The new facility is designed to meet all of the current seismic and safety requirements. Providing scope for future expansion, the new facility will relieve overcrowding issues.

The new courthouse has been designed to support an expressive, open and accessible government while representing the dignity and strength of the courts as the third branch of government.

Focusing on the importance of activities within the courthouse, the design will represent the best in architectural planning, design, and contemporary thought. The new courthouse will address adequate spaces that will be adaptable to future changes in the judicial practice.

Bringing Yolo’s sustainable vision to life, the courthouse has been designed to achieve LEED Silver certification.

The new courthouse broke ground in early April 2013 and is scheduled for completion in 2015.
