Located at 1012 South Third Street in Dayton, the renovation project has expanded the size of the previous ER which consisted of one room with two beds separated by a curtain. The new ER features three new private rooms, a dedicated waiting room and rest room.
The expanded ER has taken up the space which previously housed the hospital’s medical records. The cost for design and construction of the facility was approximately $250,000 while the ancillary equipment, including new gurneys, lights and testing and monitoring equipment, cost an additional $30,000.
Improving the level of care that patients receive, the new emergency room configuration is expected to improve the workflow and will provide privacy for patients and their families.
Planning for the emergency room project began more than two years ago, with construction started in June 2012. The project was funded from two sources – a $150,000 low-interest loan provided by Columbia REA, using rural development funds available for communities in its service area; and $130,000 in “meaningful use” funds from the hospital district that became available when government reimbursement was received for a new electronic medical records system that was implemented in 2011.
