The funding will be used to refurbish a taxiway and paved apron shoulders at the terminal building, install runway guard light systems and guidance signs, and repair runway lights and runway end identifier light control systems. Additional works include expansion of the terminal building to accommodate a renovated ticketing lobby and relocation of baggage screening machines behind the lobby walls, with addition of two lanes to the current four security checkpoint lanes.

The airport recently opened its first parking garage in late July 2010 with a new Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic control tower to open in late 2010. New or expanded airport concession businesses also opened at the terminal in 2010.

A total of $11.6 million in funds were approved by the FAA for various projects at 24 Ohio airports, out of which Dayton airport was one. FAA added in a statement that funding for Dayton Airport was approved considering numerous projects being undertaken, which are designed to enhance safety, a priority category for the government.
