Constructed by Chicago-based Walsh Construction, the new facility will bring together employees from six buildings into one complex. It will replace buildings built in World War I and World War II era.
The building will be designed according to LEED silver criteria. It will feature energy-efficient lighting and equipment, abundant natural light, rainwater harvesting, extensive use of recycled materials, green roofs, photovoltaic panels on the roof and increased insulation.
Groundbreaking is scheduled to begin in the next few months, with construction completed by September 2015 and full occupancy by July 2016.
The Defense Logistics Agency Distribution center supplies logistics and transportation support to the US Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and other agencies. It employs about 900 people at its New Cumberland facility.
