Constructed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the stadium is expected to be ready by March 15, 2010 and is constructed at a cost of INR3.29 billion ($70.89 million).

The central arena of the new stadium is shaped like an arc, which will serve as entrance for VIPs and athletes. There will be eight indoor badminton courts with a seating capacity of 5,000 spectators, and 11 indoor squash courts with capacity to accommodate 4,200 spectators.

The stadium’s roof is made up of light-weight and high-strength steel to maintain structural integrity. It is non-combustible and termite-resistant in nature. It has been procured from Tata Bluescope. This special roof offers protection against corrosion and needs zero-maintenance. It will be fixed with a façade which will be imported from Kingspan, a UK company, to get an aesthetic look. The façade will provide a high degree of resistance against fire, ultra-violet rays, weather, chemicals and impact.

Eleven pre-built glass squash courts have been imported from the German firm ASB. They will be installed in February 2010. The courts will have a movable wall, to convert a singles court for a doubles match. The floor of squash and badminton courts will be coated with Maplewood and rest of the stadium will have earthen flooring. A basement parking lot is also being constructed to accommodate 804 vehicles but due to security concerns, the parking lot will not be used during the Commonwealth Games starting from October 3, 2010. The horticulture department of DDA is responsible for landscaping of nearly five acres around the stadium. The stadium will also have a security center, athlete’s rooms, delegate offices, and a media center.
