The £4 million ($6.2 million) Simmonds Court scheme involved construction of 33 new self-contained apartments, which were developed at the site of former retirement home on Gladstone Road, which was razed out in 2009. The project was developed by Town and Country Housing Group.
The development consists of 27 two-bedroom and six, one-bedroom apartments. The amenities for the residents of Simmonds Court consist of a communal kitchen, lounge area and a hairdressing salon. The development also has a large sensory garden, which gives gardening opportunities to the residents.
Construction of Simmonds Court involved compliance with several sustainable practices, which enabled the scheme to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3. The green aspects of the scheme consist of a biomass heating system, which provides heating and hot water to the homes. Simmonds Court is the first scheme of Town and Country Housing Group to have biomass heating system.
