Salt River Fields is proposed to be built in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, at the former site of the Indian Bend Country Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. It will be primarily used for baseball and will be the spring training home to the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies. Spread over 140-acres, the complex will consist of separate training facilities and clubhouses for each team as well as an 11,000-seat central stadium.
The stadium design features completely open fan observation areas, allowing a peek into the players’ daily lives and training routines. The stadium is at the heart of the development, with batting cages, practice fields and clubhouses centred around. The site also supports 12 practice fields and dispersed parking for approximately 1,600 cars.
The stadium has been designed to exude friendliness and comfort. The natural beauty of the Sonoran Desert ecosystem is also integrated into the overall baseball fan experience with the design reflecting Arizona’s regional architecture ranging from the native colours to the natural materials.
The stadium is expected to open on 1 February 2011.
