Upgrades to the Topeka store will include an expanded Delicatessen, and a revamped café dining space. There will also be a new beverage centre, an expanded bakery and an expanded salad bar. The store will provide a wider choice of culinary options post renovation.

The health and beauty units will feature wooden showcases and new overhead directional signs as a part of the improvement works. The Customer Service section will be incorporated with new check-lanes and other amenities whereas there will be new restroom facilities equipped with water-saving fixtures. The facility will also undergo a 900 square feet addition to for its employees featuring vibrant colours.

The facility will incorporate various green features which includes installing advanced equipment, lighting systems as well as refrigeration cases. The lighting system in the building will run low on energy consumption by having motion sensors which allows tp turn off lights in back rooms when no one is present. Compact fluorescent light bulbs at the front of the facility will be upgraded which will be more durable and energy saving compared to regular light bulb.

There will be an advanced programme to electronically monitor the refrigeration, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems in the facility. Installation of new highly-efficient fan motors will consume less electricity to keep food chilled to proper temperatures whereas an energy-saving heat recovery system will be used to heat the air.

Further, the outlet will conduct a waste reduction and recycling programme for all paper and plastic packaging received by it as well as provide affordable reusable shopping bags and a convenient plastic bag recycling centre to reduce waste.

Work is expected to commence soon and be completed by 2011 end.
