According to the district, more than half the schools are over 50 years old, the newest schools are 20 years old, hence the renovation is required. District 91 is asking for an $85 million bond to upgrade the entire schools district wide.
The renovation plans include updating the 18 schools with the latest technology, adding much needed additions to get students out of modular classrooms, and also many other upgrades planned.
Six schools don’t even have air conditioning in the district, hence the plans will focus students’ best interest first, but according to superintendent George Boland it comes at a high price.
George Boland said, There is value in taking this on as a district wide project in terms of economy of scale and compressing this time frame so that we get this massive amount of work done in a shorter time frame.
