The exhibition ‘Berlin Trails’ introduced the latest works of designers and studios from Berlin. Composed as a labyrinth, the exhibition architecture recalled the different paths, blind ends and solving processes the designers had undergone to get to the final products. Visitors are invited to enter the maze and discover the individual works.

BRAN K A BLASIUS BUREAU / Collection minmin: bb Sideboard is entirely made of multilayer birch plywood. The composition achieves a minimalistic purity with no need for metal fixtures. In its original state, the sideboard is completely empty. Compatible with the multifunctional modules, it can be freely combined with other elements to create a plethora of structural solutions for everyday interiors. The modules are multi-functional objects from birch plywood, complemented by elements of acrylic glass. They can be used in various ways as a side table, stool, bedside table, shelf, chair or table.

Coordination Berlin /thread family: Thread Family debuted in MilanThread Family was debuted in Milan 2012 with small stool, bistro table, high stool and now grows with garderobe, trestles and the closely related higher desk. The design emphasises the natural qualities and strengths of the individually used materials, focussing on wood as the feature element. Available colours are sun, mint, slate, grass and berry. The used wood is American walnut and robinia. All members and individual parts are crafted and assembled in the EU.

REUBER HENNING / Color is music for the eyes: The collection combines simplicity of design with complexity of colour. Stripes as an aesthetic concept have existed in the worlds of design, fashion and art for decades. The designer has explored the limits of what you can do with it within a space of 6,3 square metres. Using the principle of coincidence in the creative process was a crucial aspect. The focus is on the unpredictable and unexpected results that develop independently of the artist’s intervention. A playful approach is, however, an absolute prerequisite for using the principle of coincidence as a method. Accessing new and unknown worlds only becomes possible when deliberate decision-making is abandoned.

SHAPES IN PLAY / Soundplotter: Soundplotter is a concept for a 3D printed vase whose shape changes according to sound input. Each Soundplotter vase thus is a unique piece that, for example, can contain a personal message or the sound of a certain moment. Furthermore Soundplotter is an attempt to answer the question of how products in the future can be generated more intuitively when the designer leaves space for interaction between user and object.

Studio Joa Herrenknecht/ KOGI / NEST: In the dark, the paper structure changes from abstract geometrical paper sculptures to luminous, warm shapes of light. KOGI lamps combine high-tech flash spun polyethylene fibre with a hand-folded paper technique. The lamp collection KOGI includes several different shapes and comes in white or various colours. Handmade in Berlin and produced by Studio Joa Herrenknecht/ NEST is made from an extruded high-grade steel cylinder, which has been precisely laser cut with a timeless graphical pattern resembling a branching grid structure. Glowing through this structure from inside out, the soft dimmable light creates a floating light carpet around the object. The product family consists of floor, table and pendant lights. It is available in different colours, powder coated with a fine structure finish.

Superéquipe/Design Interfiction: is an experiment of six young designers exposing principles and concepts of digital culture. What is authorship in the digital century? Are there Open Ideas analogue to the concept of Open Source? Do I own my ideas? Do ideas want to be possessed? Copyright, Copyleft, Creative Commons, no matter what? Superéquipe is giving answers to these questions in form of analogue products as the results of a practical design experiment. Every designer initiates an open idea, passing it on to the next one and receiving another idea in return. The idea is being corrected, extended – crisscross, back and forth. The primary idea changes, grows, evolves and takes shape with the authorship unknown.
