Scheduled for 2014, the Don McLean Westacres Outdoor Pool renovation project will enable the pool to serve the Applewood Acres neighbourhood.
As part of the project, the existing outdoor pool will be completely redeveloped along with the building which will significantly expand the outdoor pool’s lifespan. It will include updating facility change rooms and washrooms; replacing the pool tank; upgrading site services; and replacing the pool deck.
The facility would be brought to Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) standards. Two barrier-free parking spaces would be built as well.
This investment is expected to generate a number of benefits for the community with enhancements that will include improved energy efficiency; reduced water consumption by replacing pool tank and filtration system; better accessibility; shaded area for pool users; and increased use by area residents due to the facility’s new, modern and appealing visual and functional design.
The city of Mississauga will receive $990,000 from Ottawa via the federal government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, which was announced in November 2012 for the project. Renovation would be undertaken by Moffet & Duncan Architects and PCL Constructors Canada, who also designed the pool initially.
