Created by an internationally recognized environmental advisory group, EC3 Global, BPDS focuses on the Agenda 21 principle of sustainable development, and sets out economically and environmentally sustainable development procedures.
Unlike the current Green Star rating that caters only to the residential and commercial sector, the BPDS assessment provides a specific tool to ensure hotels meet sustainability requirements and environmental standards.
Andre Russ, spokesman of EC3, said that BPDS, equivalent to a five-star Green Star ranking, is a dedicated travel and tourism standard that is more sensitive to the social and economic commitments of the hotel owner.
