The project which is the first phase of the GBP100 million ($142 million) investment involves the construction of a new terminal with a purpose-built security screening area beside shops, bars and restaurants.
According to BAA, the refurbishment will make it possible for Edinburgh Airport to handle up to 13 million passengers annually.
The project is expected to reach completion in two years.
