Eight teams have been shortlisted to deliver the UK Pavilion at the Milan Expo 2015, including Asif Khan, David Kohn Architects, Amanda Levete Architects and Barber & Osgerby.

The Universal Expo will run from May to October next year and expects 20 million visitors.

Responding to the event’s theme, Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life, the UK Pavilion will aim to demonstrate British expertise in research, innovation, entrepreneurship and development, building on the success of Thomas Heatherwick’s pavilion at the Shanghai Expo 2010 (main picture).

Malcolm Reading, architect and competition organiser said: ‘The shortlist represents an inspiring mix of creative skills, combining design, content and interpretation and spanning a number of professional fields from architecture and music to agri-business, via engineering and story-telling.
