Designed by Elkus/Manfredi Architects of Boston, the 18-storey tower has been developed by US-based Fallon Company. The building, also known as Vertex Building B, will be covered in green glass from floor to ceiling, which will be installed into a metal framework pattern.
A striking element of the design is a curved building design on the east face of the structure, which will overlook a seventh floor outdoor terrace. All the corners of the building will have an all-glass feature that will face the city.
The pharmaceutical company will also occupy another 18-storey tower (Vertex Building A) located in its proximity that has been dubbed as 50 Northern Avenue and has been designed by Tsoi/Kobus Associates.
Both the towers will together offer approximately 1.1 million square feet of research, laboratory and office space. The buildings will also include 60,000 square feet of ground-floor restaurant and retail space, as well as underground parking garage. The Vertex buildings will also include a 3,000 square feet learning laboratory, which will be available for community usage to conduct scientific projects alongside Vertex scientists.
The Eleven Fan Pier Boulevard (Vertex Building B) is being developed within Fallon Company’s Fan Pier, a 21-acres LEED-certified mixed-use development site, which is the largest privately-funded development project in the country. The completed complex will contain eight buildings, comprised of offices, residences, retail space and hotel rooms, as well as a park and marina. The towers leased by Vertex will be the second and third major structures at Fan Pier, located between the existing 18-storey tower at One Marina Park Drive and the John Joseph Moakley United States Courthouse.
In the project’s next development phase, a 15-storey condominium building will join the Fan Pier complex. The residential high-rise will offer upscale dining, shopping, waterfront parks and walking paths, a world-class marina, and easy access to public transportation and major arts and cultural attractions. Early plans call for sales and construction to begin in 2013 with an anticipated completion date in late 2014 or early 2015.
