Destroyed by fire in 2007, the building has been re-built, designed by Simon Jenkins of DEM Architects. It caters to people afflicted with cerebral palsy.
Inputs for the new products to be installed at the facility were taken from the site’s administrative group in conjunction with an access advisory group of occupational therapists, carers, Alliance staff, people with disabilities, and others.
Enware installed height-adjustable nursing benches, basins, kitchen worktops and wall cupboards at the new centre.
The space saving Nursing bench from Emware is designed for situations where a person needs to be showered while lying down.
Electronically powered, it is fully adjustable for height, can be used in both wet and dry areas, and can be folded up when not in use.
Support arms offer safety and comfort to both the user and the carer, and can fold up when not in use.
Available as height-adjustable or fixed height, the arms are fitted adjacent to baths, basins and toilets, making standing and wheelchair transfers much easier.
Toilet seats from Emware have an ergonomic design, and are suitable for users who undertake wheelchair transfers. The contoured lid gives good support to the back, while a coloured option aids visual impairment.
Height adjustable basin mountings enable a user to achieve correct height level. These are suitable for those who share a basin and have different height requirements.
The mountings are powered by an electric motor, which is easily adjusted with a lever control. They can also be controlled by gas cylinder, which creates an almost weightless wash basin, allowing for its height to be easily adjusted.
IFO Sign Basin features a reverse shape washbowl that increases user area, and is fully glazed to prevent bacterial growth.
With a back-to-wall lip for protection, and an easily-cleaned tap and soap area, the basin satisfies AS1428.1:2009 requirements.
Indivo Kitchen supplied by Emware comes with height adjustable units. The worktops and wall cupboards can be raised or lowered to cater for varying physical abilities.
The mechanisms are also available as either electrically or mechanically operated.
IFO Toilet is a freestanding toilet with 460mm seat height for those are not able to easily sit down or stand up.
The toilet is pan loaded rate to 400kg and has an increased footprint for enhanced stability.
Its cistern can take a weight loading of 110kg, providing a solid backrest with generous support for users. The toilet is also fully glazed on the back and inside rim to avoid bacteria growth.
The new centre is used by an estimated 200 people each day, including people with cerebral palsy, administration staff and people from other centres who use the Alliance facility for forums and other professional events.
