The new school has replaced an 1875-built school building. The new school campus consists of two 16-class room primary schools each possessing its own identity.

The design is partly determined by local planning controls, and features a solid block being built right up to the building line, completing it in accordance with the block typology in the area. Sturdy brick interspersed with doorways and the familiar school windows define the facades. The interior design features a contrast with the exterior, with pleasant and transparent design.

The design includes several small secluded and securable outdoor areas and safe spots meant for children to play. The gateways between the main quadrangle and the safe spots have been designed by the winners of a competition held among the children at the schools. The schools also feature gym halls and a play room for toddlers.

The school is named after Beatrix, the queen of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and her sister princess Marijke.
