The one-day installation, Final Bloom, has been created exclusively for the BIID Conference, “Design Invention: Art and Science Collide”. It is an attempt to highlight the collision between art and science, and also questions the individual’s role and responsibility in art and its sacred relationship to nature.

The installation presents show piece products on a series of metal plinths like a museum piece or a laboratory specimen. The plinths will incorporate an experimental environment where a variety of root vegetable caps or tops, potential waste products, can be nurtured.

The installation will actively engage audiences to populate the plinth with colourful specimens where nature eventually becomes an aesthetic backdrop while prolonging life to what would have been a waste material. The design questions the boundary between art, decoration, science and observation as the specimens evolves.

“Design Invention: Art and Science Collide” is a one-day event taking place on 27 June 2013 at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) headquarters in London. The day will feature a series of stimulating talks and discussions, including contributions from Professor Penny Sparke, Jason Bruges, Jason Hargrave, Ab Rogers, Daniel Charny, Deyan Sudjic and BIID’s president Sue Timney.
