The redesigned commercial facilities will provide an enhanced customer experience and is expected to increase sales and revenue by 50% within three years.
Finavia is working with Peter Eriksson, Eriksson + Partner GmbH Switzerland, for the development of the project.
The redesigned facility will have improved merchandise mix, a new look and feel, and additional brand offering to meet the expectations of passengers from Asia and Russia. It will also include local specialties with products and experiences from Finland.
The project will redesign most units in phases to create an attractive environment for travellers, with the first phase to be completed at the end of 2013.
Under the scheme, all available space within the terminals will be reviewed to identify potential commercial use.
The available 11 200m2 of space will be increased up to 13 000 m2, with the commercial space to be re-evaluated and reallocated to maximise sales and revenue.
There will be an increase in the allocated space to the tax and duty free stores.
In addition, a landside commercial centre development is proposed after the opening of the new rail connection to Helsinki in 2015.
The development project was initiated at the end of 2012, and is due to be completed in 2015.
