Spread over 3,000 square feet, the house will be built, incorporating a host of sustainable elements. Located at 12 Faith Meadows in Williamstown, the site of the house is closer to schools, stores and restaurants, making its occupants consume less energy to commute, resulting in less CO2 emissions. The house will feature solar panels, and energy-efficient fixtures and appliances, as well as water efficiency.
Ohio-based Pickering Associates, which is building the house, said that natural materials as well as locally produced items are being sourced for construction to further reduce the environmental impact. Recycled materials will be incorporated by using 30% local fly ash from energy plants in the concrete of the house. The house is also designed to minimise waste through dimensions.
Ground will be broken for the house by end of August 2010 with the building ready for occupancy by late 2010.
Chip Pickering with Pickering Associates said that this first LEED-certified home will be showcased in the Mid-Ohio Valley as a model of sustainable and energy-efficient home.
