The company was founded in Ireland as Wen-plast Limited in 1968, by Stephen O’Mara whose family were for generations in the bacon and pork processing industry in Limerick. Seeing a need for a robust hygienic door for food environments, Stephen started manufacturing the Wen-plast range of doorsets. The chairman of Dortek, Alphonsus (Phons) O’Mara took over the business in 1984 and the Company has grown significantly since then.
Over the last 40 years the range of products offered by the Company has grown and Dortek has been at the forefront of research and development in hygienic door innovation. The many detailed and subtle, but critical, differences in the design of the products, class-leading fire testing, concealed intumescent, smooth seamless edges, flush fitting ironmongery, vision panels, canopies etc, have all occurred because of specific demands and requirements of our customers in clean areas.
Increasingly, Dortek has become a full-service provider, as distinct from simply a door manufacturer. The emphasis on design, project management, installation, commissioning and service, allows us to be involved and ultimately take over the complete design to commissioning package, and is designed to free the customer and specifier from the necessity to become an expert in detailed door specification.
With a young and energetic team of 80 people, Dortek look forward to building on the success of the last 40 years and providing you, the customer with ever improving product, service and value.
