There’s no shortage of light either, thanks to an illuminated back panel that automatically lights up when the front of the unit is opened. Chromotherapy lighting tailored to the task in hand, from chopping vegetables to entertaining friends is an optional extra. Plus – just another feature of Valcucine’s commitment to making life easier – the sink tap automatically pivots outwards when the panel is opened and retracts when it is closed.
Valcucine’s Genius Loci kitchen is finely conceived inside and out. Take its large pan drawers, designed to open fully for easy access and able to hold up to 70kg. No detail is overlooked: carbon-finished runners allow drawers to operate smoothly while modular timber inserts help you organise drawer contents. Proving that great design comes down to the smallest details, Genius Loci features shallow accessory drawers beneath the worktop (which has been slimmed down to create the extra space). The fronts of these secret compartments are enhanced by copper, stone or a decorative marble design inspired by the Italian Renaissance.
Functionality is at the heart of every Valcucine kitchen and Genius Loci is no exception. Its island unit comes complete with a bridging frame that’s well equipped with lighting, a handy accessory rail and power bar. A cantilevered breakfast bar injects a sociable vibe – it’s seen here (top image) in oak veneer to strike a contrast to the sleek glass worktop.
The Genius Loci standalone unit is a multi-tasking wonder. It’s fitted with Gaggenau appliances concealed behind pocket doors that slide away discretely when the oven or coffee machine are in use. Plus, for safety, the unit is fitted with a safety box feature that switches off the power when the doors are shut. To the right of the unit shown is a slim pull-out larder unit with space for plenty of dried goods.
