BP America, a Fortune 100 company, is one of the biggest natural gas and oil producers in the US. Fox Architects together with GHT Limited and HITT Contracting Inc. designed the 22,000 feet government affairs office space.

Located on the 7th floor of 1101 New York Ave. NW, the office is one of thirteen projects in the country and the second in the region to receive USGBC’s top honor.

Designed to create an informal and progressive atmosphere for employees and guests, the Washington DC office features workstations with higher panels designed in glass to create more privacy. A range of work space has been established, including a large living room/pantry, informal lounge spaces and team rooms.

The prime design element of the space is a photomosaic wall that acts as a hub and enables staff and guests to interact with BP’s corporate culture. Gathered from the company’s archives, the photomosaic contains 616,896 individual images.

Green features of the office include a lighting control system that adapts according to daylight and use of reclaimed materials that release low levels of volatile organic compounds that were processed within 500 miles of DC. The main reception area and elevator lobby feature a wall derived from reprocessed timbers.

LEED Green Building Rating System offers a set of criteria to be followed for construction of environmentally sustainable structures.

Real estate property developers Louis Dreyfus Property Group, part of Louis Dreyfus, developed this property.
