The contract, signed by the superintendent Christopher Martes, is slated to resume the pending school renovation, which involves the removal of the asbestos, removal of a boiler, and abating the asbestos from the boiler room. Slated to resume over the Good Friday break from April 2-4, 2010, though the process is time consuming and expensive, it is important as exposure to asbestos particles leads to mesothelioma, a rare cancer that has no cure.

The renovation work also includes electrical works in the science labs and corridors, along with the replacement of the roof, windows and upgrades to the HVAC system.

About $9.4 million of the total cost of the project was funded by the state. CTA Construction would be taking care of the school’s renovations, stated Katie Adair, the school committee’s liaison to the town building committee.

A large amount of the renovation work had been completed in the summer of 2009.
