Presented at the House of Detention as part of the Clerkenwell 2013, the Hush is a felt pod constructed entirely from biodegradable materials. Designed as an enclosed space to provide privacy, the user can crawl into it to work or rest.
The outer shell of Hush is cut from a single piece of 10mm industrial wool felt while the internal padding is made from recycled wool fibers discarded by carpet manufacturers.
It is claimed to be flame retardant, breathable, durable and elastic. It is also multi-climatic, providing warmth when the environment is cold and generates cooling effect when it is warm.
Hush is produced sustainably from animals out in the open, with each sheep producing a new fleece each year. Three years in the making, Hush is manufactured by Durham-based furniture manufacturing company Ness Furniture.
Now in its third year, Clerkenwell Design Week was founded in 2010. The event gathers Clerkenwell’s long-established design community together, celebrating the creative richness, social impact and its power for change within this unique part of London.
