London’s first accessible railway, the Elizabeth Line, is the result of the biggest infrastructure project in a generation.
Maynard was tasked with delivering the wayfinding identity and product family to unite all 41 individually designed stations for a seamless passenger experience. It has introduced a common design language across a family of architectural components – which includes cladding, platform edge screens, seating, lighting, digital advertising, signage and customer information systems – with each individual component designed to feel integrated into the fabric of the architecture.
With detailed, and even full-scale, station mock-ups Maynard Studio has successfully developed a sign family, based on existing TFL standards, and detailed design guidelines including information hierarchies, type sizes and layout principles for this momentous project.
