The new student accommodation scheme will be built on the university’s Birley Fields campus. The designing for the new student scheme is currently underway, but the broader plans indicates provision for student bedrooms across 77 townhouses and 34 cluster flats.
The project is being aspired for BREEAM Outstanding rating. The student accommodation scheme will utilise the benefits of a district heating system as part of the university’s Zero Carbon, Zero Water and Zero Waste campaign. The heating system will be provided by a new energy centre installed as part of the wider campus development scheme.
The ensuite facilities of all the bedrooms will utilise water from a grey water collection and dispersal system for all the flushing demand. Furthermore, the company plans to recycle 98% of waste generated at the site, which will further assist the project to lower its environmental footprint.
Subject to planning approval, construction work on the site is expected to begin in January 2013.
