Catering for children aged from four to 18 with severe visual, mobility and sensory impairment, Hazelwood School is located in a quiet residential area on the edge of Bellahouston Park and Dumbreck conservation area.
The low slung building is conceived as a natural free flowing form, which `meanders´ gracefully through the site keeping its existing landscape of mature lime and beech trees intact. Timber is the predominant structural and cladding material selected for its natural weathering qualities whilst presenting a warm and tactile surface to the children who will learn in its sustainable environment.
Following over 170 entries for the Awards, Hazelwood School was the only Scottish project to win the award in the Inspiring Design category.
