The officials have stated that the Chamber would be receiving about $150,000 to $200,000 for the renovations. The renovations were announced by chairman of the chamber’s Board of Directors, John Isgett and past chairman Roger Schrum.
Schrum stated that the project will include new office spaces, technology and utility upgrades. The project also entails the construction of a new conference room that would be used by the chamber board and the community. Plans also include a thorough refurbishment of the existing offices and the entrance.
The Darlington County Tourism Office, situated on the left side of the ground floor of the theater, along with another rental space is slated to be converted into new conference rooms. The facility will also be equipped with a kitchen and new bathrooms. The present conference room would be converted into the new tourism office. The space would be divided into two offices.
Schrum stated that the Center Theater Building Commission has stepped in to assist the project in its finances. A third of the projects funds are stated to come from the capital campaign and another third from funds that have already been designated for the repairs. Schrum also added that about six months are required for the funds to be generated.
The contractor for the project is Bill Segars and the project is slated to begin by the fourth quarter of 2010.
