Supporting Cetronia’s regional approach to public health and safety, the centre will be a 68,000 square feet facility. The building will capitalise on shared efficiencies by co-locating Cetronia Ambulance Corps and Lehigh County’s Medico-legal forensics operations, as well as centralising Cetronia’s crew shift starts and vehicle maintenance with its communications, billing, education and administrative functions.
Along with Cetronia’s fleet, the garage space will house the County’s hazardous materials, special operations equipment and vehicles. The state-of-art education centre will be used to train EMS, public health and safety providers throughout the Eastern Pennsylvania region. It will also be used for community health education programs.
The new facility will replace Cetronia’s existing 1962-built operations centre, currently located on Broadway, which will further support and enhance Cetronia’s High Performance EMS system.
Paying homage to the former President and CEO of Service Electric, the new communications centre upon completion will be called the John E. Walson Emergency Communications Center. The ground breaking ceremony for the centre was held on 21 February 2013.
