As a part of the group’s involvement in environmental and ecological protection, its four locations in Mexico – Mayan Palace, The Grand Mayan, Sea Garden, and Mayan Island – have completed all three steps needed to achieve EarthCheck documentation: affiliation; benchmarking, involving operational efficiency indicators and environmental impact; and certification. EarthCheck documentation is an international certification for sustainable tourism. The properties are redesigned to follow strict energy and waste conservation procedures.
Guestrooms at each resort are now equipped with water-conserving toilets, faucets, and showers. Recycled water will be extensively utilized to irrigate golf course and landscape. The four resorts also adhere to other sustainable efforts such as composting; selling recyclable materials back to their suppliers; and participating in En Advance. The En Advance system unites efforts for the preservation of Mexican ecology and the protection of the marine turtle.
