Willow Close offer 63 affordable homes, which consist of 56 apartments and seven bungalows. The project has been developed at the site of former homes built in the 60s and 70s decade. The homes are noted for their low carbon footprints.
The project features a host of sustainable features, which including a centralised combined heat and power plant, which produces power to offset the energy requirements of the residents. The heat generated will then be used as a by-product and is transmitted to homes by means of an efficient and space-saving under-floor heating system.
The project has been designed in keeping with the requirements of old age people. All residential units are wheelchair accessible and have several security features, including CCTV.
A unique piece of public art, specially commissioned by Sovereign and Newbury Town Council, will be featured on ‘Old Hospital Green’ in front of the Willow Close development. ‘Binary Conversation’, created by nationally renowned artist Joseph Hillier, includes two 1.5 metre-high steel sculptures depicting human heads in conversation.
The project has been constructed by US-based developer Leadbitter Group.
