It’s part of a $310 million investment in the Henry Ford Hospital Campus, which included work that opened in Detroit in December.
With 700,000 square feet and 192 private rooms featuring wireless Internet and flat screen TVs, its high-end amenities and Feng Shui design has brought criticism saying it’s attempting to lure top physicians and patients with commercial insurance plans, the Michigan Business review reported.
All will be revealed at its Grand Opening Gala on Saturday, March 7. But the grand opening of the first phase of the campus investments opened in December 2008 with the two-story, $35-million Henry Ford II (West) Pavilion expansion project, may be an indicator of what’s to come.
It has 40 new private rooms complete with wireless Internet access, patient-controlled lighting and room temperature and space for family members to stay overnight.
Those rooms were designed to mimic a home-like setting for each room, and uses natural maple crown-molding and chair railing, wood flooring, soothing colors and modern furniture. Those new patient rooms have space for family members to stay overnight on sleeper sofas and reclining chairs, flat screen TVs with cable access, wireless access, remote-controlled window treatments, adjustable lighting options and individual thermostats.
By reinvesting in the Henry Ford Hospital Campus, we’re able to maintain and sustain the flagship legacy that has been established through the decades of providing the best medical services available to the citizens of Detroit and to patients from around the world, said Nancy Schlichting, president and CEO of Henry Ford Health System.
