The Hoops is a small pub no larger than 846 square feet belonging to the Henry Moore Foundation, a registered charity founded by the artist to encourage public appreciation of the visual arts. The client requested that the interior was modernised to reflect the sophistication that Moore and his wife Irina brought to their house and estate at Perry Green.
Emphasis has been placed on maintaining the pub’s rural charm. Strong yet subtle references to Moore include his own textile designs, ‘Treble Clef’ and ‘Safety Pins and Heads’ which date back to 1946. Prints by Moore, and images relating to his life and work at Perry Green adorn the interior with vintage books available to take down and read.
Original features such as exposed oak beams and a huge fireplace have been preserved. Natural materials have been used including reclaimed long bench seats in vibrant green and a new slate coloured floor. The walls are neutral with tonal painted panelling to dado height and a special recessed waiter station has been incorporated. No ceiling or pendant lights have been used in the interior, due to a low ceiling height of 2m.
The Hoops Inn pub dining room is run by The Henry Moore Foundation, with the guidance of leading boutique caterers Harbour & Jones. It is situated on The Henry Moore Foundation estate at Perry Green. The hamlet was home to world-famous sculptor Henry Moore and his family for over 40 years.
