Designed by California-based architectural firm Farro Essalat, the tasting room is said to be the first retail outlet for Hestan Vineyards.
The 2,440 square feet building will include a tasting bar for new release and library offerings, and a retail display area with cookware and winery accessories, as well as offices and an on-site apartment. The new facility will be designed on contemporary lines, featuring a mix of cubic and barrel forms. It will be built from wood, copper, glass, steel and stucco.
The tasting room is scheduled to open in spring 2013. The project broke ground on 24 August 2012.
Hestan was founded in 1996 by the Chengs on the eastern slopes of the Napa Valley. Currently, it is a solar-powered estate with 56 acres of vineyards planted to Bordeaux varietals. They produce three labels, the flagship Hestan cabernet sauvignon, the Meyer cab, and Stephanie, a Bordeaux-style blend. They also produce an estate chardonnay, made from the Cheng’s vineyard at the southern end of Highway 29 on the grounds of their Meyer Cookware Company.
