Wearing a polar landscape-like look the “Contemporary Décor” is a new, minimalist kitchen design that is both functional and futuristic. It is made entirely out of the new-generation acrylic stone HI-MACS. To re-explore the use of organic materials in decorative objects, LG Hausys has used rounded, laminated surfaces made out of white HI-MACS. This material will not only be used to dress the display area itself, but also to create the surfaces into which the kitchen appliances are built.
This 22nd century kitchen was first shown at the recent Design Week in Milan. The voluptuous curves undulate upwards to meet the highly functional worktops, creating a striking emotional impact. In addition, the entire kitchen benefits from the thermoformable, hard-wearing, easy-to-maintain and hygienic properties of HI-MACS.
A three metre-wide HI-MACS sculpture, designed by Ora-ïto for Reebok, will also be presented at Maison & Objet Paris and 100% Design. It is an interpretation of the Reebok RealFlex shoe in the form of a wall-mounted installation made entirely from HI-MACS. The detail of Ora-ïto’s work came from what he described as the “iconic sneaker soles”. Inspired by the RealFlex sole’s “hidden art” aspects, the designer has exercised various sculptural experiments to create the sculpture.
Maison & Objet Paris is an international home decoration, giftware and tableware exhibition, which will be held in Villepinte, Paris from 7-11 September 2012. A week later, HI-MACS will be showcased at 100% Design from 19-22 September, which is a part of London’s Design Festival.
