An installation that transforms the reception area into a work of art greets visitors as they enter the A1 office building in Rohan City, in the Czech Republic.
Known as the ‘bionic wall’, the contemporary sculpture is made of HIMACS Alpine White. Modelled after the mathematical Voronoi diagram, the sculpture mimics the geometric structure of cells, and is continuously but subtly transformed through an interplay between shadow and reflection as light conditions evolve throughout the day.
It is anchored to the rear concrete wall via a customised load-bearing system to ensure structural stability.
The ‘bionic wall’ is complemented by a reception counter, also crafted from HIMACS in the Alpine White shade. Both are enhanced by an LED lighting system that illuminates the base of the desk.
The task of crafting the wall feature was undertaken by A.M.O.S. Design, while the A1 office building itself is the work of architect Eva Jiřičná, whose vision has resulted in a functional, contemporary and light-filled workspace built for the client, property developers Sekyra Group. Jiřičná is the co-founder of the AI Design studio, which is based in London and Prague,
To protect the exterior glazing, a ventilated façade made of perforated metal has been installed to not only reduce solar radiation in the warmer months, but also to lend visual dynamism to the building envelope.
